Boston 2008

Weekend Update…

On Friday at about 6pm, Sam and I, along with a group of students and adults from our church, left for Boston on a weekend mini-missions trip. We partnered with the Boston Project , a ministry we’ve been connected to by a missionary our church had watched grow up and is now supporting.  Keith and his family have a heart for the people of inner city Boston and work hard to meet the needs (spiritual, financial, emotional and physicial) of the community. I was grateful for the opportunity us suburban yuppies had to watch the Lord work his redeeming gospel into the neighborhood of Dorchester, through Keith, and other saints we met. I was quite proud of the members of our church—young and old worked diligently, putting self last and others first, to accomplish what we could over the weekend. Some groups painted rooms at the Boston Project house and other ministry sites, some assisted in fund raising advancements at A Woman’s Concern crisis pregnancy center, others handed out fliers for a safe alternative Halloween event a local church is holding and some helped to plant 3000 tulip bulbs at a neighborhood park (each tulip represents one person in the Dorchester neighborhood) called Codman Burying Ground . It was a blessing to watch people come to understand issues of social justice and how the gospel can come to play a wonderful role to burdens of urban residents.

I am always in awe as I watch God being shown off by the people in our church.

Knowing Keith’s own story excites me to look at the lives of the youth group students and wonder at how they will be used by our Heavenly Father.

When you talk to us, or others from the Boston Team, ask us to tell stories of what we saw in Boston…I wish you had come!

This is a little scary… apparently Obama’s Uncle was shot in the same neighborhood where we stayed in Boston… small world(?)

Christian circles are small and continually overlap. I clicked on your link about Boston through a link of Sam’s about retreat…. and lo and behold, our church also supports the Boston Project because Keith’s wife Sarah grew up at FBC Toms River – her parents still attend there and her mom is the Principal of our Christian school. What a funny coincidence!
