I was able to spend some time last week visiting some of our shut-ins. I don’t get around as much as I want to but I’ll consistently, dutifully try and cheer up folks, and then find myself more encouraged than they are.

I was struck by the fact that they pray for me and my family daily. I was impressed how much they were thankful for God’s faithfulness, and for the love they received from our church – visits, cards, flowers. But man, it seems tough, lonely and discouraging being old, alone and in a nursing home. We need to keep showing these folks love.

(Pictured is wood art by one of them when he was more abled than he is now, hanging in our church lobby)
